The Council
for the Indian School Certificate Examinations administers
the ICSE and ISC programmes. While ICSE is recognized in
India as an examination for Class X, the Class XII exam is
called the ISC or Indian School Certificate examination.
Both courses are designed as per recommendations of the New
Education Policy, 1986. ICSE and ISC students get
opportunities equal to that of other Boards and are treated
at par for college admissions.
The ICSE syllabus is
designed to be child-centered and focuses on the overall
growth and development of the child.
As
this syllabi is also more flexible, it allows greater
freedom to the teacher and the child to explore the vast
possibilities of imparting knowledge in different ways.
The focus is on the
interspersing of academic and co-curricular activities in
such a way that the stress is on
learning
by doing,
with projects undertaken to integrate diverse subjects like
Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Sciences.
The
practical experience that such teaching and learning
encourages, promotes an
in-depth,
conceptual understanding of subjects. More
information on the ICSE can be had from
