Teaching and Learning: Result-oriented Methodology
The ICSE
curriculum stresses on interactive, project-based learning. It is therefore a
child-focussed syllabi with an activity-based,
application-oriented teaching methodology. It reinforces
learning through recall of knowledge, oral skills,
problem-solving, teamwork, investigative techniques, and
initiative-taking. These skills not only help the child
through his/her schooling years, but also guide him/her
through adult life.
Such a
curriculum is very demanding of the School as it requires a
teaching team of committed, talented, creative and
experienced persons. Nalanda has recruited some of the
best school teachers or educators, as we prefer to call
them. That is because they will not just teach, but
also coach, cultivate, develop, discipline, enlighten, train
and tutor the children.
In
addition to their basic qualifications as teachers, our
educators go through intensive training periodically in
subject teaching for children of various ages, through
motivational and practical interventions.
They also
regularly attend training programmes by experienced Faculty
recognized by ICSE and IGCSE Boards. Visits to exceptional schools are planned as
a regular programme to excite teacher initiative and expose
them to new ways of doing things.
Parents – Child – Educator:
Dozens of
studies support the connection between the child’s
scholastic achievement with consistent parental interest and
involvement. Nalanda makes this easy through the Home
Visits conducted at the beginning of the academic year
and the subsequent Parent Educator Meetings (PEM)
held twice a year. It is important for every child to know
that his/her parents and educators are truly interested in
what he/she does. Parents’ Workshops are held regularly so
that parents know the methodology followed in the class to
help their child effectively.
The numerous academic,
emotional and physical events that are crowded into a
child’s life often push the child towards disorganization.
As educators and parents, it is our responsibility to make
sure that our children get organized by creating a work
schedule, helping them plan projects/work in advance, and
break assignments into manageable sections. One of the ways
this can be done in the child’s routine life is through
effective homework management. How both the educator and
the parent/s can play a proactive role in the child’s
schooling life will be part of the regular communication
between the parents and the child’s educators. Parents can
also meet Educators on working days with prior appointment.
At Nalanda we believe that
the best home tuition is for parents to work with their
child. We strongly discourage private tuitions either from
Nalanda educators or others. If you feel that your child
needs more attention or special assistance in any subject,
please contact the respective Principal. A student found taking
tuition might be asked to leave the school, if the tuition
is not discontinued after repeated reminders from the school
authorities.
Parents must carefully read and sign all Progress Reports of
the child sent from the school. This Report is a tool to
achieve a higher level benchmark of teaching and learning
and an indicator to the parents and child about the
corrective measures to be undertaken. |
